ORAL SURGERY

REHOBOTH DENTAL CLINIC

Our Oral surgery

Although most people develop and grow 32 permanent adult teeth, many times their jaws are too small to accommodate the four wisdom teeth. When inadequate space prevents the teeth from erupting they are called impacted wisdom teeth. This indicates their inability to erupt into the proper position for chewing and cleaning.

Common types of oral surgery

For teeth and jaw procedures that go beyond the expertise of a general dentist, you might need oral surgery. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, for example, removing them may require you see an oral surgeon. If you suffer from gum disease and have to have a gum graft, you’d be referred to a periodontist who performs those types of oral surgeries.

Risks and complications associated with any oral surgery

Any time surgery is performed, there is a slight chance of infection setting in afterwards. Any infection should be taken seriously and reported to your oral and maxillofacial surgeon, who will prescribe appropriate antibiotics to treat the problem. Signs of infection include fever, abnormal swelling and pain, salty or prolonged bad taste, and pus formation.

gum grafts

Gum grafting covers exposed teeth roots and adds volume to your gum line, improving overall oral health. Recovery usually takes one week to two weeks, but it may take longer.

jaw surgeries

corrects irregularities of the jaw bones and realigns the jaws and teeth to improve the way they work. Making these corrections may also improve your facial appearance.

implants

your oral surgeon makes a cut to open your gum and expose the bone. Holes are drilled into the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed. Since the post will serve as the tooth root, it's implanted deep into the bone

Periodontal surgery

surgeons make small cuts in your gum and lift a section of tissue back. Then, they remove tartar and bacteria from your tooth and from under your gums.
